The Kitchen: Three Years Later

The biggest and best DIY project to date has been our kitchen cabinets makeover.  I get lots of questions about the process of painting them, what we actually used to paint them, and how they've held up.We painted our kitchen cabinets three years ago using a Rustoleum Cabinet Transformations kit.  It's hard to believe it was so long ago.  The color used was chocolate but we used the optional

Clark + Kensington and OPI

Guess what ladies!  You can now get your favorite nail color on your walls.  I was browsing the Ace Hardware website and stumbled on this info.  OPI has partnered with Clark + Kensington and it's exclusively at Ace Hardware.I have a few favorites and wanted to share. These I would definitely wear these colors on my hands.  I like reds and pinks on my nails so I'm not changing nail color every few

Friday Five

It's Friday!  It seemed like it didn't get here soon enough.  Not like I'm trying to rush through life, but I love the weekends.  Lots of family time and getting things done around the house.  And you know what else?  It's the first day of spring!!!  Woo hoo.  It's been feeling like spring around here for the last week or so.  The change in temps has been nice.  I don't care for cold weather so

Chic Work Spaces

Since getting my new desk, I've been trying to find ways to organize it while keeping it pretty.  It is within our bedroom so it must remain well organized and pleasing to the eye.I've found some organized work spaces from around the web.  They are not only functional but gorgeous as well.  If your work space looks great, you're bound to be more productive right? source source source source

DIY Magazine Files

On a recent trip to Ikea, I picked up a pack of the Flyt magazine files.  I wanted to add some storage to the master bedroom for our magazines and books.  They usually just end up in the floor next to the bed or in a corner when I'm tired of stepping over them.  I had purchased a shelf, also from Ikea, to house these books and other decorative items. I want that workspace to look organized and

Mid-Century Modern Dining Room

Mid-Century Modern is becoming one of my favorite design styles.  I decided to put together a style board of this style.dining table / clock / chair / buffet / pendant / honeycomb shelf / table lamp / art print / orange bowl / green pitcher You're reading Mid-Century Modern Dining Room by Andrea, originally posted on Decorating Cents.  If you've enjoyed this post, be sure to follow Andrea on

DIY Acrylic Tray

I wanted to add some storage to the top of my desk.  Since I love the sleek and shiny desktop, I didn't want anything too heavy or dark covering that up.I searched online to see what some options were without spending a ton of money.  I came across several for an acrylic tray.  I grabbed one of these acrylic frames from Michaels.  I removed the cardboard insert.I cut a piece of scrapbook paper to

Arcing Floor Lamps

This is one of those pieces I love to see in a room.  Lighting can really make a statement and change the mood.  The arching floor lamps does just that.  You often see them stuck in a corner hanging over a sofa.  They add light in a room without turning on an overhead light.  These lamps are beautiful but can sometimes come at a hefty price.  I searched the web for some affordable options.1 / 2 /

Yes To The Desk!

Happy Monday!  It was great to get the kids off to school this morning!  School was out four of the five days last week due to snow.  Mind you they were out the week before for winter break.  They were stuck home with me except for Thursday and Friday when I took them to the office with me so I could get some work done...and get out of the house.  I was going stir crazy and I'm pretty sure the

Gilt-y Pleasure

Hi my loves! I'm so sorry for my extended blogging absences lately. I've been so swamped with school, working, completing an internship, and writing my thesis that it leaves very little time to blog. Now, add moving to that list!!Yes, that's right, I'm leaving my current student housing sitch for a big girl one-bedroom apartment.  I'm feeling a bit sad to leave this little studio apartment that

Ikea Rast Hacks

One of the things I've been shopping for in the master bedroom is a nightstand for my husband's side of the bed.  When we bought our bedroom set years ago, we were living in a two bedroom town home.  Out room wasn't big enough for the bed and two nightstands, so we only bought one.  So now that we are in a new home with plenty of space, we want another nightstand.  The furniture company no longer

Inspirational Trips and Travel Tips for 2015

At this time of year, when the seasons are changing and minds are racing to the months ahead, conversation often circles around to that much-loved topic: TRAVELGetting away is always high on everyone's agenda. Last year, the 'hot' spot seemed to be Instanbul. And perhaps London (going through a resurgence, thanks to new hotels such as Ham Yard and old favourites like The Pelham, above). The year

Gray Board and Batten

Good morning!I showed you this gorgeous office with gray board and batten last week.  I believe it totally transformed the look of the room.  Check out her before.  I've done white board and batten in the foyer and the back entryway but adding the gray steps it up a notch.  It looks so sleek and modern. I decided to look around the web to see who else has added some gray board and batten to their

Garden Highlights and Delights for 2015

Having fallen in love with the beautiful imagery —and ease of use – of Instagram, I have now become addicted, as well as friends with many of those I follow and those who kindly follow me. [ LINK ] If you're into gardens, textiles, interiors, travel or design, Instagram is now one of the best source for inspiration on the Internet. It's difficult to find or search for things — its only downside –

Master Bedroom Progress

Well, things are moving slowly but they're moving.  I'm trying not to rush any of my decisions on the pieces in this room.  I tend to change my mind after I've purchased things and at that point I can't return them to the store.I showed you last week the progress of the sitting room.  We're still not sure about the desk I chose so we're waiting on another option to arrive before we make the final

OMG Nail Strips

I'm not the type to get my nails done on a regular.  I don't like spending money on something I don't feel like I'll get the full benefit from.  I used to wear acrylics a long time ago.  They were pretty but are horrible for your natural nails.  After kids, I just cut the expense and went natural.  Every now and them I'll paint my nails myself and wear the polish until it starts to chip.  I've

January Month In Review

The Plans Have Changed

We are well under way with the master bedroom makeover.  It's been fun so far.  My husband is pretty much letting me handle this but I have to keep in mind the things he would and would not like.  We liked the initial design but realized a few things weren't going to work. Here's the first plan.  There were two chaise lounge chairs in the sitting area.  After much debate, we decided that we really

2015: A Year to Step Out of Your Comfort Zone

So many people I know see 2015 as a year to do something different. A year to step outside their comfort zone. 2015, it seems, is set to be an uncomfortable year. And that's a good thing. In November and December I travelled through 10 countries in 3 weeks. Some of it was for work; some of it was some much-needed time away with my partner. While the work trip to Europe—which was to do further

Luxurious Master Bathroom

I think we all long for a place to wind down and take a breather at the end of the day.  A long, hot bubble bath in a large jacuzzi tub is a dream right?  I immediately started thinking of a luxurious master bathroom when I saw this faucet from Decor Planet.  In my opinion a master bathroom should have cool, calming colors.  I mixed blue and gray in this space which I think look great with the

Look A Likes: Desks

It seems like I've been on a constant search for furniture lately.  Why am I looking at desks you ask?  Don't you have one for your office already?  You'll find out soon enough.  Anyway, I saw one at Restoration Hardware that is gorgeous!  I've been digging the industrial look.  Now we all know I do things on a budget so the $695 price was no where near my budget.  I found a similar one at Target

GE Lighting Home Makeover Giveaway

A while back I was given the opportunity to try some GE Reveal light bulbs.  I love the white light they cast off instead of the usual yellow glow from incandescent bulbs.  It's amazing the impact that lighting makes in a room.  Just changing an ordinary bulb to a GE reveal bulb made a huge difference.  The colors are more vibrant and less muted than a room using a standard bulb. Like me, many

DIY Fabric Trimmed Curtains

This project has been on my list for a while and I can finally check it off.  We had plain white curtains from Ikea hanging in our master bedroom.  I loved the simpleness of them but I wanted to jazz them up a bit.I went back and forth between trimming the curtains down the sides or adding fabric on the bottom like I did in the nursery.  The trimmed idea won.  I started late Friday night.  I

Model Home Inspiration

I've told you about my love for model homes before.  You can get so much inspiration from touring a modeled home.  Some of the staging can be overdone but you can see concepts you may not have thought about doing before and incorporate them into your own home.I love this model home in Utah.  It's a traditional home but features so many great modern updates.  The front of the house is beautiful.

H&M Home Picks

Since H&M has come out with their home line, I frequently take a look there to see their new inventory.  They seem to continually drop and add items.  They have a good variety of home decor, all at affordable prices. stripe pillow / knobs / glass vase / stripe rug / tea light holder / shower curtain / duvet cover set / wooden tray / mirror Until tomorrow, online shipping is free with code 2773.

Finding Joss & Main Items at Other Retailers

I have been on the search for items for our master bedroom makeover.  A lot of the searching has been online.  I am a member of Joss & Main.  It's an online retailer that features curated limited time sales on home decor.  Their sales usually only last 3 days so if you see something you like, you better buy it now.  Their items sell out fast.  I was looking through their lighting section and

It's Time for the Master

It's time we finally get our master bedroom together.  Most of the other rooms have been finished so I decided it was time to make our room our sanctuary.Last time I shared our bedroom was here and here.  We painted the walls a light greige and pretty much left it alone.  There's blank slate to work with. Here are some ideas I put together. We have the necessary furniture like the bed and dresser.

More Blue Please!

So the first change to the house for 2015 is artwork.  My goal is to infuse as much blue into the house as possible, without going overboard that is.  Red used to be my favorite accent color but like all things, I've changed a little.  Blue has taken over.  It's just so calming and cool.  I was out earlier this week in At Home and wandered into the art section.  This little number caught my eye.
